A market trader has openly criticized the government and officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over what she describes as a sharp increase in electricity costs, urging authorities to take immediate action.
In a video circulating online, the trader expressed frustration over the rising cost of prepaid electricity.
According to her, a ¢100 ECG prepaid credit previously lasted approximately 42 days.

However, she claims that under the current administration, the same amount no longer lasts nearly as long, placing additional financial strain on her business and household.
She questioned the government’s economic management, stating that ordinary citizens are not experiencing any relief despite official assurances about currency stability and improved economic indicators.
Referring to recent comments about artificial intelligence influencing currency trends, she argued that the real impact of the dollar rate is still being felt in local markets through high prices and utility costs.
The trader further urged the President and his appointees to reconsider their approach to governance if they are unable to effectively address the economic challenges facing citizens.
She emphasized that leaders must prioritize practical solutions that bring measurable relief to the public.
Her remarks reflect growing public concern over the cost of living, particularly utility tariffs, as many Ghanaians continue to call for transparency and sustainable economic reforms.
