The Ghana Police Service has announced the deployment of reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its surrounding areas in the North East Region.
This urgent action comes in response to recent violent disturbances that saw two houses set ablaze by some youth in the regional capital, along with threats to torch more homes and attack residents.
In a press release dated 18th December 2025 and signed by DSP Robert Anamain, Head of Public Affairs for the North East Region, the Police indicated that the move by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) is aimed at restoring calm, safeguarding lives and property, and enhancing security in the affected communities.

The statement also noted that the teams would assist the North East Regional Police Command in enforcing the curfew currently imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government. Additionally, they will help intensify security on highways to ensure the safety of commuters.
The Ghana Police Service reassured the public especially residents of Nalerigu that investigations into the attacks and arson incidents are ongoing.
Authorities have pledged to apprehend and prosecute all individuals found to be involved in the violence.

The Command urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers as they work to stabilize the situation and bring perpetrators to justice.
