A constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Obuasi has sparked controversy with a blunt warning ahead of the party’s internal presidential primary.
Speaking at a local party gathering, Sammy declared that the contest would be “50–50” if Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia fails to secure victory.
He went further to caution party supporters to “run for your life” should Dr. Bawumia lose, a statement widely interpreted as an expression of fear over potential internal instability rather than a literal threat.

The remarks have triggered debate within party circles, with critics describing the language as reckless and inflammatory, while supporters argue it reflects deep anxiety about party unity and electoral prospects.
