Ken Ofori-Atta’s INTERPOL Red Notice Temporarily Removed from Public View
Ken Ofori-Atta’s image and details have been temporarily hidden from INTERPOL’s Red Notice list, pending a review of his request for removal. OSP confirms precautionary action.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has today, 19 November, 2025, announced that the image and personal details of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, have been temporarily blocked from public view on INTERPOL’s official website.

This move follows a precautionary step taken while his formal request to be removed from the Red Notice list is under review.

The Red Notice, which flagged Ofori-Atta for international law enforcement attention, stemmed from alleged corruption and abuse of office during his tenure as Ghana’s Finance Minister. According to the OSP, this action does not mean the Red Notice has been canceled.
Instead, INTERPOL is reviewing his application, and until that decision is finalized, the visual data has been hidden as part of standard procedure.

The OSP further clarified that Ken Ofori-Atta remains a subject of investigation and that legal processes are ongoing within Ghana’s jurisdiction.
What led to this moment
Earlier this year, the OSP issued summonses to Ofori‑Atta in connection with alleged misuse of public office and state contracts dating from his term (2017‑2024).

His failure to appear in person by a deadline of 2 June 2025 triggered an official declaration of “fugitive” status and initiated the process for an INTERPOL Red Notice, which would authorise global law‑enforcement coordination for possible arrest or extradition
Political Implications
This development has sparked renewed discussions around accountability and justice in Ghana’s political landscape. Many Ghanaians are closely watching the outcome of this case, especially as it touches on high-level financial governance..
Implications and reactions
– Legal and diplomatic stakes: A Red Notice is not an arrest warrant, but a mechanism that flags an individual for law‑enforcement attention in participating countries. Its presence — or absence — affects extradition and detention possibilities.
– Public perception: The hiding of Ofori‑Atta’s details has sparked debate. Some see it as routine review procedure; others view it as potential weakening of accountability.
– Corruption investigations deepened: The OSP has filed 78 charges against Ofori‑Atta and associates in a high‑profile case involving the revenue‑assurance contractor Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), the National Cathedral project, and other major contracts
What Is a Red Notice?
A Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant but a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition. It is issued by INTERPOL at the request of a member country—in this case, Ghana—through its national legal authorities.
What’s Next?
The outcome of INTERPOL’s review will determine whether Ken Ofori-Atta will remain on the Red Notice list or be removed permanently. The OSP continues to urge full legal cooperation as investigations proceed.
