Car dealers at Suame Anomangye Post Office, near the Kumasi Magazine industrial hub, have staged a protest to express their frustration over the deteriorating road conditions caused by the ongoing construction of the Suame four-tier interchange.

The demonstrators, primarily vehicle importers and traders, blocked key access roads in the area, disrupting traffic and drawing attention to what they describe as neglect by authorities.

According to the protestors, the prolonged construction and lack of proper road maintenance have left the area in disrepair, severely impacting their businesses.

Speaking to reporters, several car dealers lamented that heavy dust from the broken roads is damaging vehicles on display, reducing their value and driving away potential customers.

Others also noted that the poor state of the roads poses a health risk and creates an unsafe working environment.

“The government promised development, but this construction is killing our businesses.

We are not against the interchange, but the roads must be maintained while the work continues,” one of the protestors stated.

The group is calling on city authorities and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to urgently rehabilitate access routes within the construction zone to support businesses and reduce health hazards.

The Suame four-tier interchange is one of the government’s flagship infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in Kumasi.

However, the delays and lack of temporary road management have sparked criticism from affected communities and businesses.

Local authorities are yet to issue an official response to the protest.

Meanwhile, security personnel were deployed to ensure calm as the demonstration progressed peacefully.
