Man Arrested for Allegedly Selling Sobolo and Akpeteshie Mixed with Weed

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 53-year-old man, identified as Adjei Owusu Afiriyie, in the Ashanti Region for allegedly selling alcoholic and herbal beverages mixed with suspected narcotic substances.

According to police sources, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation that led officers to a local pub known as De-Vicky’s.

During the raid, officers reportedly seized several barrels of locally distilled alcohol (akpeteshie), bottles of Alomo Bitters, and quantities of sobolo believed to have been laced with weed.

Preliminary investigations suggest the substances were being sold to unsuspecting patrons, raising serious public health and safety concerns.

The police described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug-related activities and the circulation of contaminated consumables within communities.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting with investigations. Authorities say he will be arraigned before court once investigations are completed.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that the sale of adulterated drinks poses significant health risks and will be dealt with decisively.
