Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, Wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Dies After Airstrike Injuries

Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died from injuries sustained in the US-Israeli airstrikes that struck Tehran on February 28, 2026, Iranian state media and international reports confirm.

Bagherzadeh, 78, had been in a coma following the strikes that killed her husband and several members of their family.

According to Iranian media outlets, she succumbed to her wounds on March 2, 2026, days after the attack.

The joint military operation by the United States and Israel targeted multiple strategic locations in Iran as part of a broader conflict that has drawn global attention.

The assault not only claimed the life of Ayatollah Khamenei — who had led the Islamic Republic since 1989 — but also severely injured his wife, whose identity had remained largely private throughout her husband’s decades-long rule.

Bagherzadeh and Khamenei married in the mid-1960s and had six children together.

Throughout her life, she stayed largely out of the political spotlight, maintaining a discreet public profile even as her husband wielded significant influence over Iran’s political and religious institutions.

Her death marks another significant development in the escalating regional conflict and adds a personal dimension to the turmoil that continues to spread across the Middle East.
