NAIMOS cracks down on illegal mining in Eastern Region: camps burned, excavators impounded for engaging in Galamsey.

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operational Support (NAIMOS) task force has intensified its efforts against illegal mining activities in the Eastern Region, executing a decisive operation that has left a significant impact on illegal operators.

In a coordinated crackdown, NAIMOS dismantled multiple unauthorized mining zones, burned down makeshift camps used by illegal miners, and impounded several excavators and other earth-moving equipment.

The operation also saw field agents disrupt ongoing illegal mining operations, effectively halting their activities on the spot.

This move forms part of the government’s ongoing commitment to clamp down on environmental degradation caused by illegal small-scale mining, locally known as “galamsey.”

Authorities described the action as a strategic effort to send a strong signal to those engaging in or facilitating environmental crimes.

A spokesperson from NAIMOS emphasized that environmental crime has “met its match” as the task force remains resolute in restoring the nation’s natural resources and protecting water bodies and forest reserves.
