NAIMOS Rejects ₵2.7 Million Bribe from Galamseyers
NAIMOS Rejects ₵2.7 Million Bribe from Galamseyers in the Western Region during it’s operation. The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has made significant progress in its clampdown on illegal mining activities, commonly known as ‘galamsey,’ in the Western Region.

In a high-impact operation, NAIMOS operatives uncovered concealed illegal mining zones and arrested nine (9) foreign nationals suspected of engaging in unauthorized mining activities.
The arrests were made at a mining site where operatives also dismantled and destroyed makeshift mining camps and equipment used in the illicit operations.

During the raid, the operatives were reportedly offered a ₵2.7 million bribe, which they firmly rejected, underscoring the agency’s renewed commitment to integrity and the fight against environmental degradation.
The foreign nationals are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Authorities are also working to determine their immigration status and any possible local collaborations that enabled their activities.
The operation forms part of a broader national agenda to protect Ghana’s water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves from the devastating effects of illegal mining.

NAIMOS has vowed to sustain these operations across all affected regions, with the backing of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and other security agencies.
