NAIMOS Taskforce shutdown illegal mining in Asuom, arrests seven suspects in the Eastern Region.

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations and Surveillance (NAIMOS) Taskforce has carried out a successful operation against illegal mining activities at Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region.

During the raid, the Taskforce arrested six Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian for engaging in illegal mining operations without proper authorization.

The suspects were apprehended on-site while actively involved in mining activities that are known to degrade the environment and pollute water bodies.

In addition to the arrests, the Taskforce seized an excavator, several vehicles, and other mining equipment used in the operations.

These assets are being held as part of ongoing investigations and may be processed for forfeiture.

The raid is part of a broader national strategy to combat galamsey, protect natural resources, and restore degraded lands. NAIMOS has reiterated its commitment to intensifying its surveillance and enforcement operations across illegal mining hotspots.

The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face prosecution as the authorities continue to dismantle illicit mining networks in the region.
