The Narcotics Control Commission (NARCOC) has destroyed illegal drugs valued at more than GH¢2.5 million in Tamale, following a series of successful arrests and convictions of drug traffickers in the Northern Region.
The destruction exercise, carried out under tight security and in accordance with court orders, involved large quantities of narcotic substances seized during intelligence-led operations across the region.
Officials said the action forms part of NARCOC’s ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent illicit substances from reaching communities, particularly the youth.

According to the Commission, the drugs were confiscated over a period of sustained operations targeting dealers, couriers, and distributors.
After thorough investigations and prosecutions, the courts authorized the disposal of the seized narcotics to ensure they do not re-enter circulation.
Speaking after the exercise, NARCOC officials reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking nationwide.
They emphasized that the Commission will continue to collaborate with other security agencies, traditional authorities, and community stakeholders to strengthen enforcement and public awareness.
Members of the public were urged to support the fight against drugs by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
NARCOC stressed that drug trafficking poses serious threats to public health, safety, and national security, and warned that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
