“Nobody Can Remove Me as Family Head Except the Asantehene,” Abusuapanin Tupac Fires Back

A growing family dispute surrounding the funeral arrangements of late highlife icon Daddy Lumba has escalated, with the Abusuapanin (family head) firmly rejecting calls for his removal.

Victor Kofi Owusu, who serves as Abusuapanin of the musician’s family, has insisted that no individual or faction within the family has the authority to destool him.

In an interview with Ezra TV on February 26, 2026, Owusu stated that under Asante customary law, only the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, holds the power to remove him from his position.

Owusu also addressed criticisms from individuals within the family, including a figure known as Mama China, questioning her standing and legitimacy in the matter.

He argued that she does not belong to the Ekuona clan and therefore lacks the customary authority to challenge his leadership.

The controversy follows a February 25 meeting between a faction of the family and the Chiefs of Parkoso, during which concerns were raised about how the funeral arrangements were handled. Critics allege that key family members, including the musician’s first wife and elder sister, were not adequately consulted.

The dissenting group has reportedly issued a two-week ultimatum for Owusu to appear before the chiefs to respond to the allegations. The situation continues to unfold as traditional authorities and family elders seek a resolution.
