Police Arrest Leaders of Notorious Highway Robbery Gang in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended key members of a feared highway robbery gang responsible for a string of violent attacks, robberies, and at least one murder across multiple regions in Ghana.

The arrested suspects, identified as Kwame Bediako, alias “Star Boy,” and Kofi Ishmael, are believed to be the masterminds behind the gang’s operations, which spanned from 2023 to 2025.

Police say the group carried out coordinated attacks on highways, preying on motorists, trailer drivers, passengers, and even security personnel.

The criminal activities reportedly took place along major routes including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Suhum, Nkawkaw, Juaso, and areas within the Kumasi corridor.

The gang is accused of using high-powered firearms and other deadly weapons to carry out their operations, often leaving victims injured and traumatized.

During the arrest operation, security officers recovered a cache of weapons, including firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous implements used in the gang’s activities.

Additional suspects believed to be members of the syndicate were also picked up in connection with the crimes.

Authorities have confirmed that some gang members are still on the run.

A manhunt is underway to bring them to justice, and the public is encouraged to provide any relevant information that could assist the ongoing investigations.
