Police arrest nine suspects, recover weapons after mob attack on officers in Saawie in the Upper West Region.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested nine individuals in connection with a violent mob attack on police officers at Saawie, a community within the Jirapa Municipality.

The incident occurred on Friday, December 5, 2025, when approximately thirty individuals launched an unprovoked assault on officers who were conducting official enquires in the area.

According to a press release signed by DCOP Francis Yiribaare, Regional Police Commander, the assailants overpowered the officers, forcibly dispossessed them of four (4) service weapons, and inflicted various injuries.
Following the attack, a reinforcement team led by DCOP Yiribaare swiftly intervened, rescuing the injured officers and restoring order.
The injured officers received medical attention, with one sustaining a fractured arm and currently undergoing further treatment at the Wa Regional Hospital.
The police have successfully retrieved all four service weapons, while efforts are underway to recover two missing magazines believed to have been taken during the attack.
The nine arrested suspects are expected to be arraigned before the court. The police command is calling for public cooperation, particularly from residents of Saawie and neighboring communities, to assist with ongoing investigations and the arrest of any remaining suspects.

The Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the attack, labeling it a heinous act against law enforcement. Authorities have assured the public that decisive measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of officers and law-abiding citizens.
The Command emphasized its commitment to upholding law and order and urged the public to provide any relevant information to aid in the swift conclusion of the investigation.
