Police Arrest Seven Members of Notorious Highway Robbery Gang, Recover Weapons and Stolen Items

The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven suspected members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be behind a string of violent robberies across parts of Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.

The arrests followed a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations.

The suspects are linked to multiple robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along major highways including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, and Juaso-Kumasi stretch.

According to a police statement dated 10th January 2026, the syndicate was responsible for a November 2025 attack at Peduase, Aburi, where armed men stormed a residence, robbing occupants of cash, jewellery, mobile phones, and other valuables.

The breakthrough came when police apprehended suspect Kofi Ishmael, 30, at Avenor, Accra.

During interrogation, he admitted to being part of the gang and implicated Kwame Bediako, alias “Star Boy,” identified as the gang leader. Bediako was subsequently arrested at Ablekuma Agape.

A search of his residence led to the recovery of a concealed pump-action gun and ammunition.

Further investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects who police say were preparing for another robbery at the time.

Recovered exhibits included firearms, machetes, knives, ammunition, mobile phones, and other items believed to be proceeds of crime.

The seven suspects currently in custody include:

1. Salia Mohammed (alias Kwaku Nlah, 27)

2. Kofi Ishmael (alias Ishmael Addo, 30)

3. Kofi Ketewa (alias Star Boy, 36)

4. Alidu Yakubu (alias Alhucho)

5. Humani Razak (alias Mogambo, 39)

6. Kwasi Akamburey (alias Kwasi Fresh, 27)

7. Kwame Bonsu (alias Killer Man)

Police have also linked the group to other unsolved robbery and murder cases, including the killing of a police officer.

One suspect is receiving medical attention under guard.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its resolve to clamp down on criminal gangs and is urging anyone with relevant information to assist ongoing investigations.
