The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 30-year-old man in connection with a shooting incident that occurred during a funeral ceremony at Obuasi. The incident left a traditional ruler from Adansi Dompoase injured.
The suspect, identified as Nana Yaw Dankwa, was apprehended on Saturday, November 29, 2025, after police officers on duty at the funeral grounds responded promptly to the sound of gunfire. Upon arrival at the scene, officers successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect.
During the arrest, police retrieved an unregistered single-barrel gun, which was found loaded with live ammunition.

The injured traditional ruler, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, received medical attention and has since been treated and discharged.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days to face charges related to unlawful possession of a firearm and causing harm.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order at public gatherings and has assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have also issued a strong reminder to the public that the unlawful possession and discharge of firearms, especially at social events, will not be tolerated.
