Police Arrest Suspect Over Inciting Comments That Threaten Public Peace in Bawku

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the circulation of inciting comments deemed capable of undermining public peace and security, particularly in Bawku and its surrounding communities.

In a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on January 31, 2026, the Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as Raphael Azare Kariyama, was apprehended through an intelligence-led operation.

The operation forms part of broader efforts by security agencies to monitor, identify, and curb the spread of content that promotes violence, threatens public order, or poses risks to national security.

According to the statement, the suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before a competent court to face the full rigours of the law.

Investigations are ongoing, and the Police have indicated that efforts are being intensified to arrest other individuals who may be linked to the alleged activities.

The Ghana Police Service used the opportunity to caution the general public against making, publishing, or sharing comments that could inflame tensions or incite violence.

Such actions, the Police warned, have serious consequences and undermine the collective peace and security of the country.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, reaffirming the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that individuals who threaten public peace are dealt with in accordance with the law.
