The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District following a routine patrol operation.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper West Regional Police Command, officers on patrol on Monday, February 3, 2026, sighted a group of about five men at Goziri, a community near Vieri.
The men were reportedly armed with single-barrel guns and cutlasses, posing a potential threat to public safety.

Upon noticing the approaching police patrol vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee.
However, officers pursued them and successfully arrested three individuals identified as Yahaya Samad, 27; Adams Alhassan, 37; and Yiritang Boosi, 35. The remaining suspects escaped and are currently being sought.
A search conducted at the scene led to the retrieval of three single-barrel guns, three cutlasses, and 23 BB cartridges.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted they had no valid licences to possess the firearms or ammunition.
The suspects were subsequently arraigned before the Wa Magistrate Court and have been remanded to reappear on February 18, 2026. Police say efforts have been intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has commended the professionalism of the patrol team and cautioned the public against possessing firearms without proper authorization, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the region.
