Police Arrest Two Staff Members for Alleged Theft of Students’ Food at Sefwi Bekwai STEM SHS

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two members of staff at the Sefwi Bekwai STEM Senior High School in Awaso over the alleged theft of food items meant for students.

The suspects Bennedicta Nyamadi, the school’s matron, and Rahel Kyeremateng, a cook were apprehended on 23rd December 2025, following intelligence received by the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) the previous night.

Acting on the tip-off, a joint team comprising police officers, the area’s Member of Parliament, and the MCE conducted a search at the residence of Rahel Kyeremateng in Sefwi Atronsu.

The operation led to the discovery of large quantities of food items suspected to have been stolen from the school’s food store.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects conspired to steal the supplies and store them at Kyeremateng’s residence for future sale. Recovered items included:

– 21 bags of 50kg rice

– 4 sacks of gari

– 2 sacks of maize

– 1.5 bags of millet

– 1 bag of sugar

– 3 bags of beans

– 40 large tins of tomato paste

– 4 cartons of milk

– 6 gallons of cooking oil

– 54 tins of canned mackerel

The total monetary value of the items is yet to be determined.

Under interrogation, Kyeremateng implicated Bennedicta Nyamadi as the source of the food items, leading to Nyamadi’s arrest at the school premises.

Authorities are also pursuing a third suspect, assistant matron Hannah Dufie, who is currently at large and believed to have played a role in the alleged theft.

Police investigations are ongoing as the suspects remain in custody.
