The Narcotics Division of the Ghana Police Service has destroyed a large consignment of tramadol and marijuana seized during sustained anti-drug operations across the country, reaffirming its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking.
The destruction exercise, carried out under strict security and in accordance with legal procedures, followed court authorization after investigations and prosecutions related to the seizures.
The illicit substances, valued at millions of cedis, were confiscated from suspected traffickers during intelligence-led operations and routine patrols in key drug-prone areas.

Officials of the Police Service stated that the action was necessary to prevent the re-entry of the drugs into circulation and to protect public health, particularly the youth, who remain the most vulnerable to substance abuse.
Tramadol abuse, in particular, has been linked to rising cases of addiction, crime, and mental health challenges nationwide.
The Police Service emphasized that the destruction sends a strong signal to drug dealers that Ghana will not serve as a safe haven for narcotics trade.
It also called on the public to support law enforcement by providing timely information on drug-related activities.
