The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 36-year-old taxi driver after intercepting a vehicle transporting suspected narcotic substances in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.

The arrest followed a tip-off that led police to mount an operation along the Dzolokpuita–Ho road.

The suspect, identified as Innocent Kpeglo, was intercepted while driving an Opel taxicab with registration number CR 675-12 from Dzolokpuita towards Ho.

According to the police, a search conducted on the vehicle uncovered 37 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana hidden beneath the back seat. The suspect was immediately arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in charge of the Ho West District, Rockson Gyasi, said the operation was carried out swiftly after intelligence was received.

He explained that at about 5:57 a.m., the vehicle appeared on the road, and the driver attempted to feign a mechanical fault upon spotting the police.

DSP Gyasi disclosed that Kpeglo admitted he was transporting the suspected narcotics to an individual in Aflao and allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GH¢5,000 to avoid arrest. The police rejected the offer and transferred both the suspect and the vehicle to the Anyirawase Police Station for a detailed search, which confirmed the discovery.
