Ghana Police service rescues 11 workers, arrest 5 suspects in fatal shooting at Galamsey site leading to killing of one boy.
The Western Regional Police Command has initiated a full-scale investigation into a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at a mining concession site in Adelekezu, near Dadwen in the Axim District of the Western Region.

The incident resulted in the tragic death of a boy and significant destruction of company property.
According to an official statement from the Public Affairs Unit of the Police, a team dispatched to the scene found two SUVs, two tipper trucks, and a Toyota Land Cruiser either burnt or damaged.

These acts were reportedly carried out by angered youth of the community in reaction to the boy’s death.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the youth allegedly had a confrontation with private security personnel of the mining company.
The altercation reportedly escalated when some youth attempted to seize a pump-action gun from one of the guards. In the struggle, the guard allegedly fired the weapon, fatally wounding the boy.
He was rushed to the Axim Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident sparked outrage among the town’s youth, who went on a rampage, torching vehicles and other company properties. They also issued threats to lynch workers at the site.
The Police managed to rescue 11 workers from the escalating violence and arrested five suspects identified as Gyenyame Owusu (38), Matthew Asamah (24), Nana Yaw (15), Yaw Opoku (16), and Kojo Agyei (21).

The suspects are currently in custody for allegedly causing harm and unlawful damage.
The Western Regional Police Command is urging the community to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations to ensure justice is served and peace is restored.
