Police Return GH¢85,000 Found on Techiman–Kumasi Highway to Owner

The Bono East Regional Police Command in Techiman has returned a bag containing GH¢85,000 to its rightful owner after it was discovered at a roadside checkpoint.

According to an official statement, officers on duty at a police snap checkpoint along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway noticed an unattended bag lying by the roadside at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026.

The bag, believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle, bore the name “Ofori” and a contact number.

The officers, led by Inspector George Appiah and supported by three colleagues, secured the bag and upon inspection discovered it contained a substantial amount of cash.

The item was subsequently forwarded to the Regional Command for proper documentation and verification.

Police contacted the number on the bag, and a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown, Kumasi, identified as Stephen Ofori, responded. He later reported to the checkpoint and confirmed ownership.

Mr. Ofori explained that the money had been withdrawn from GCB Bank in Wa and was being transported to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when the bag was misplaced.

After verification of the claimant’s identity and confirmation of the exact amount, police released the full GH¢85,000 to him.

The Command has commended the professionalism of the officers involved and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative in similar situations.
