The Ghanaian creative and filmmaker Dela Finn has expressed deep sorrow and heartbreak following the passing of his close friend and collaborator, Nelson Mandela Jnr.

In a moving social media tribute, Dela shared his grief and reflections on the personal and professional bond they shared, recounting their journey from humble beginnings to building dreams in the film industry.

In his emotional post, Dela Finn described the devastating impact of the news, stating, “I’m scared, very scared… you made me drop tears today.”

He recalled their shared ambitions dating back to 2015, when both were still navigating their paths as dreamers in the creative industry.

According to Dela, Mandela Jnr. was instrumental in motivating him to pursue filmmaking, insisting they start their journey together and asking to be trained by him.

The two friends eventually drifted apart due to life’s unpredictable turns but found their way back to each other recently.

Dela shared how Mandela Jnr., just last year, expressed excitement to return to Ghana and rekindle their film dream, saying, “I will be back in Ghana soon, no forget to fix me o. You no say na me start this thing.”

That message, Dela said, reignited his hope for the future.

Unfortunately, that future was cut short. Dela revealed that while planning the year’s projects with his team, he received the heartbreaking news of Mandela Jnr.’s passing.

“I’m shaking, I’m lost, and empty,” he wrote. “I don’t even know what we are fighting for anymore in this life.”

In a solemn vow, Dela promised to honor Mandela Jnr.’s memory in every film produced under his production company, Deland Films.

“You are the genesis of this dream,” he emphasized, adding that Mandela Jnr.’s name and image will be embedded in all his creative work moving forward.

He ended his tribute with a heartfelt farewell:

“Wherever you are, may the Almighty grant you perfect rest. You will never fade — Nelson Mandela Jnr.”
