A devastating road accident at Asikuma in the Bia West District of the Western North Region has claimed the lives of seven people, plunging the community into mourning.
The tragic incident occurred on the morning of January 7, 2026, when a timber truck with registration number AS 9304-17 reportedly lost control and collided with a tricycle transporting passengers and goods.
The impact of the crash was fatal, resulting in multiple casualties on the spot.
Emergency response teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Ghana Police Service, and the National Ambulance Service were swiftly deployed to the scene.

They worked tirelessly to retrieve the victims and manage the chaos that followed the incident.
According to eyewitness accounts, the timber truck was speeding down a slope when the driver lost control and crashed into the smaller tricycle. The force of the collision was so intense that the tricycle was completely mangled, with bodies and personal belongings scattered across the roadside.
The deceased, whose identities are yet to be officially disclosed, were handed over to authorities for further investigations. Injured victims were transported to nearby health facilities for emergency care.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether there were any breaches of road safety regulations.
Preliminary observations suggest possible brake failure or over-speeding on the part of the truck driver.
Residents of the area have expressed shock and sorrow, calling on authorities to enforce stricter road safety measures, particularly for heavy-duty vehicles transporting logs and timber on rural roads.
