Tema Police Intercept Over 1,600 Parcels of Suspected Narcotic Drugs Wealth Thousands of Dolars

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The successful operation, which occurred along the Akosombo–Tema highway, was part of a carefully coordinated intelligence-led effort aimed at disrupting illegal drug activities in the region.

According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Tema and signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, intelligence received on January 10, 2026, indicated that a large consignment of suspected narcotic substances was being transported from the Volta Region to Tema.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police teams mounted surveillance along the suspected route, with special focus on the Agomeda Junction area.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, two vehicles—a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22)—were intercepted.

The vehicles were being driven by two suspects identified as Isaac Odoi, aged 33, and Kwame Mani, aged 39.

A search of the vehicles revealed several parcels wrapped in yellow packaging, believed to contain narcotic drugs.

Following the discovery, both suspects were arrested on the spot, and the vehicles were taken to the police station for further investigation.

On January 12, the suspects and the seized exhibits were handed over to the Regional CID in Tema.

Upon inventory and documentation, police confirmed that 872 parcels were recovered from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while the Toyota Highlander contained 741 parcels.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.

Samples of the intercepted substances have been sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing, while further searches are being conducted at the suspects’ residences.

The police have also initiated processes to formally charge the individuals involved.

Team Regional Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking and other forms of organized crime.

The police have also called on the public to provide credible information that can aid in maintaining security and protecting communities.
