The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals suspected to be part of a syndicate that uses taxi operations as a front to snatch mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting passengers.
The suspects — Sasu Lawrence (alias Agbe), Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti (alias Survivor) — were apprehended on January 12, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation.
According to preliminary investigations, the group primarily operates during early morning hours, targeting victims — mostly women — by posing as legitimate taxi operators.

Two suspects typically sit in the front seats while the third occupies the back seat, creating the appearance of a normal shared taxi ride.
Once a victim boards the vehicle, the suspects reportedly lock the doors to prevent easy exit.
As the victim struggles to open the door upon reaching their destination, the suspect in the back seat pretends to help, using the moment to discreetly steal the victim’s phone, purse, or other belongings.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
Authorities have also launched efforts to track down other members of the syndicate, including individuals who receive and trade in the stolen items.
