Two Dead, 12 Injured in Early Morning Crash on Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway

A tragic road traffic accident on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway has claimed the lives of two individuals and left twelve others injured in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

The collision, which occurred near Abakam, involved a Toyota Corolla with registration number GS 2455-25 and a Sprinter bus registered WR 316-24.

According to officials from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Elmina Fire Station received a distress call at 5:11 a.m. and swiftly dispatched a team to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters secured the area, cleared debris from the roadway, and ensured traffic flow was restored to avoid any secondary accidents.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, with emergency responders working to extricate victims and administer immediate assistance.

Four of the injured passengers were rushed to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital, where two unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.

The remaining ten victims are currently receiving medical care at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

Their conditions are being monitored closely by medical personnel.

This incident has reignited calls for heightened road safety, especially during early-morning hours when visibility and driver alertness may be compromised.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The GNFS has reiterated its commitment to ensuring swift emergency response and has advised drivers to adhere strictly to road safety regulations, including speed limits and proper vehicle maintenance, to prevent further loss of life.
