Two Dead, Five Injured in Tanker and Sprinter Bus Collision at Enyiresi on Accra-Kumasi Highway

A devastating accident on the Accra–Kumasi Highway has claimed the lives of two individuals and left five others injured following a head-on collision between a MAN Diesel fuel tanker and a Sprinter passenger bus.

The incident occurred near Enyiresi on Sunday morning when a tyre detached from the moving tanker, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The tanker veered dangerously into the path of the oncoming Sprinter bus, resulting in a violent collision.

Emergency responders and personnel from the Ghana Police Service and National Ambulance Service were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist victims and manage traffic.

Tragically, two people were confirmed dead at the scene, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment.

The Ghana National Fire Service was also called to the scene due to the potential danger posed by the fuel tanker.

Preventive measures were swiftly put in place to avoid fire outbreaks or further damage, including the application of foam to neutralize any leaked fuel.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tyre detachment and the general roadworthiness of the tanker.

The Ghana Highway Authority and Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) are also expected to conduct assessments and follow up with necessary recommendations.

This latest incident adds to growing concerns over road safety on Ghana’s highways, especially involving heavy-duty vehicles.

The public is being urged to remain cautious, and transport operators are reminded of the importance of routine vehicle maintenance.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
