According to eyewitnesses, the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle, resulting in chaos as pedestrians and other road users scrambled for safety.
The collision caused significant injuries and widespread panic at the scene.
Emergency services, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and medical personnel, responded swiftly.
The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, with several in critical condition receiving emergency treatment.
Among the deceased were two young women: a 21-year-old apprentice and a student of Sunyani Technical University, identified as Maame Yaa. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident has drawn emotional reactions from the public, particularly due to the spiritual context of the trip.
The bus was reportedly filled with religious materials such as handkerchiefs, oils, stickers, wristbands, and other spiritual items, which many believe were meant to offer divine protection.
Despite the symbolism of such items, the accident has sparked broader conversations on road safety, vehicle maintenance, and the over-reliance on spiritual artifacts in situations requiring practical precautions.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, including a review of the bus’s mechanical condition and the driver’s conduct.
