Volta Regional Police Destroys 600 Sacks of Indian Hemp Worth Over GH₵4.2 Billion

The Volta Regional Police Command, in collaboration with key judicial and environmental stakeholders, has successfully destroyed 600 sacks of narcotic drugs (Indian hemp) in a court-sanctioned exercise held on Monday, November 17, 2025.

The destruction took place around 2:30 p.m. and involved exhibits seized by the Police Command in 2022 during a major operation that led to the arrest of suspects in the case titled The Republic versus Yao Kwadwo @ Wallako and Two Others.

The narcotics had been held as evidence until the conclusion of the trial.

According to the Volta Regional Police, the 600 fertilizer sacks contained approximately 47,530 kilograms of cannabis, with an estimated street value of GH₵4.2 billion.

The order for destruction was issued by His Honour Felix Datsumor Esq., Circuit Court Judge in Ho, following a legal review.

The supervised destruction took place at the Klefe dumping site in Ho at about 10:30 p.m., under strict security provided by the Police and National Security personnel.

Also present were Mr. Moses Dzansi, Circuit Court Registrar; Mr. Joseph Opusomah, State Attorney; Mr. Daniel John Pekyi of the Narcotics Control Commission; and Mr. Emmanuel Mensah Gbekor of the Environmental Protection Authority.

The Volta Regional Police Command, through Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their continued support in the ongoing fight against illicit drugs in Ghana.
