A disturbing video circulating on social media has captured a group of young men brazenly cutting down cocoa trees in what appears to be a forested area in the Western Region of Ghana. The men are reportedly clearing the land to engage in illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as “galamsey.”
In the footage, the individuals are seen with machetes and other tools, actively destroying cocoa plantations an act that poses a serious threat to Ghana’s already struggling cocoa industry.
What is even more alarming is their open defiance; the men boldly declare in the video that they fear no one and challenge anyone who opposes their actions to confront them directly.

The incident has sparked outrage among social media users and environmental advocates, many of whom are calling on law enforcement agencies and government authorities to take immediate action.
Galamsey continues to be a major concern in Ghana, contributing to deforestation, river pollution, and the destruction of farmlands.
The cocoa sector, which is a vital source of income for many farmers and a major export earner for the country, is increasingly under threat from such illegal activities.

The Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are being urged to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
