Government discusses with Large-Scale Mining over GNARAP
The government on today, May, 4, 2026 has engaged with large-scale mining companies over the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GNARAP).
The meeting was co-chaired by the Finance Minister, Honourable Ato Forson, and the Minister for Land and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, bringing all stakeholders in the mining sector to discuss strengthening the gold reserve to make the cedi more stable.

Dr. Ato Forson addressing the members explained that the policy focused on Ghana’s external gold acquisition aimed at increasing the nation’s buffers for the international market.
He stated that the government under GNARAP is targeting the gold acquisition process while ensuring the methods used in the mining sector adhere to regulations associated with it.
He added that the policy is in partnership with different industries as he termed it as pro-industry and not anti-industry.
Under the GNARAP initiative, the government aims to acquire 20% of the gold sold by the large-scale mining companies, which is equivalent to about to 0.57tonnes each week.
