It’s Not an Attack on Freedom of Speech – Kwesi Pratt
Ghana’s sensational journalist, Kwesi Fifi Pratt has expressed his opinion that people who post false information about government officials on their social media handles should be held accountable and can not be attributed to an attack on freedom of speech.
This comes after the NPP’s Sunyani East Constituency Communication Officer, Abubakar Yakubu made a post about the President and other government officials dressed in LGBTQ dress.
The image sparked conversation online and he was arrested and detained by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) including their flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, condemned the act by the CID accusing the NDC party of suppressing the fundamental human rights and freedom of speech in the country.
Speaking on the Kokroko show on Peace Fm he says the government of Ghana is governed by laws and anyone who is found guilty of a crime should be arrested and prosecuted.
“Ask yourself, what they shared is not against the law, and prove it. Otherwise, we can not accuse the government of attacking the freedom of speech”, he said.
He reaffirms that holding such people accountable to the law is not an attack on freedom of speech.
