NIA Workers Threaten Strike over 22 Months of Unpaid Salary
The workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) have threatened to go on an indefinite strike following unpaid salaries for twenty months in salary migration approval.
The NIA has set May, 13, 2026 to embark on the nationwide strike due to the delay in approval of workers’ salaries, staff promotion, and workers placement.
In a statement released by the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), the finance ministry is being accused of causing a delay in the grant for the Union.

The Union says the NIA staff of the scheme was approved in July 2024 allowing it to accept workers.
After recruiting staff for the scheme, the salary for the workers has been delayed for more than twenty-two months.
The Union states that despite its effort to involve stakeholders in settling the debt no positive feedback has been received.
The Union threatened that the repeated failure had caused the internal staff to go on strike till it is resolved.
“If we do not receive the necessary approvals for implementation of the migration reports for Staff of the NIA by 13th May 2026,” the notice warned, “the industrial action will commence without further recourse
The strike is expected to affect the NIA operations within the country which oversees the National Identification Cards (Ghanacard).
