EOCO arrests Ex-NAFCO Boss and His Wife Over Alleged Fraud and Money Laundering of over GHS 60Million

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has rearrested the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and his wife Fuiza Seidu Wuni over alleged fraud, theft, and money laundering exceeding Sixty Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 60million) just after he was released by the High Court in Accra.

The charge filed in the court by the Attorney-General and the Minister of Justice has an allegation of the defendant being involved in 20 counts of stealing state property under false pretences, causing financial loss to the state, and dishonestly in money laundering while he was in office.

It is alleged that as stated by the charge presented by the prosecutor, Hanan Abdul-Wahab has used an amount of US$127,500 which is equivalent to GH¢734,400 for the rent of the whole office from 2017 to 2019.

The prosecutor charged it as a theft under false pretences under the criminal law of the country.

Secondly, Mr. Hanna Abdul was charged with diverting government funds for buying foodstuffs from a private entity; one James Tieku-Apawu, trading as Sawtina Enterprise for approximately GHS50.8 million.

Mr. Hanna Abdul was also charged for diverting funds meant for NAFCO to private owned company alleged to be owned by his wife called Alqarni Enterprise for foodstuff purchases amounting to GHS 3.34 million.

The wife was charged as the second defendant for receiving the money meant for the public through her company as the prosecutor described it as stealing by false pretense.

The accused are seeking a judicial hearing of the case as the case is yet to be called by the court in the coming days.

The case has generated public attention on how the government funds are managed by the state institutions.
