The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a suspect for possession of Indian hemp valued at more than one hundred and fifty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS150,000).
The police statement reads below;
The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested suspect Bismark Kpormeno, for possession of a large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The arrest was made on Sunday, 31 May 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit during an operation along the Tema-Ada road.
The suspect, who was driving a Hyundai Mighty Il container truck, failed to stop when signaled by the officers and attempted to evade arrest. He was subsequently pursued and apprehended at Bondase.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the substance was allegedly loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The vehicle and exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.
