Akosombo Fire a ‘God’s Act’ For Modernisation – Mahama Tells VRA

The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has commended the Volta River Authority (VRA) for their swift restoration of power after the devastating incident.

The President’s visit on Wednesday, 29th April, 2026 to the VRA after the fire destroyed the thermal plants in the control room, he described the incident as an opportunity for modernization. “It is ‘God’s Act‘ he stated. 

He commended the engineers’ hard work in restoring the power to provide electricity in various areas households and businesses.

“VRA has some of the best human resources, when I heard they would bring it back, I was not surprised”, he said.

The president in his speech said, ‘the fire is a fact’, noting that it is also an opportunity for modern plants to be installed.

He then revealed that the four turbines are back on as work in progress to restore all the units to acquire a stable electricity supply.

Additionally, he assured the Ghnaians and expressed his optimism about the work by the engineers and promised good news.

He acknowledged the impact of the power outages as he applauded the engineers at the site for their quick recovery.

He pledges government support to the Volta River Authority (VRA) and applauds them for providing an efficient power supply to Ghanaians since 1964.
