A young Ghanaian woman identified as Janet has stirred controversy after boldly declaring the famed Nogokpo shrine as “powerless and a scam.”
Her statement was made during an interview with Maame Frimpomaa Korankye (MFK) on Lawson Afisem, monitored by GH Page.
According to Janet, her experience with the Nogokpo shrine, located in the Volta Region and widely known for spiritual justice and dispute resolution, left her disappointed and financially strained.

She narrated that her troubles began after being scammed by a man named Peter Ayeka, to whom she paid money for a piece of land.
However, the man allegedly failed to deliver on his promise, and her efforts to retrieve the funds through legal or informal means proved unsuccessful.
Desperate for justice, Janet said she turned to Nogokpo, believing in its reputation for enforcing accountability.
Upon arrival, she claimed she was instructed to pay GHS 5,000, with assurances that within seven days, Peter Ayeka would return her money.
However, more than two years later, Janet says she has neither received her money nor seen any action taken by the shrine.
Her experience, she explained, has led her to conclude that the shrine is “overhyped” and lacks the spiritual power it is believed to possess.
Janet’s remarks have sparked online debates, with some people sympathizing with her ordeal while others criticize her for speaking against a revered traditional institution.
