Thunder Strike Kills One, Injures Six during Funeral at Pai-Katanga

Pai-Katanga a town in the Krachi East Municipality has received shocking news after a 32-year-old man identified as Felix Yaw lost his life and six others were in critical condition after a thunderstorm strike during a funeral observation.

The incident was reported on Thursday, May, 7, 2026 during a heavy downpour in the Municipality.

According to Mr. Ericson Boateng, the Assembly Member of Katanga Electoral Area who confirmed the news to Ghana News Agency (GNA) says the deceased invited his family members to his place to help him slaughter a cow for the funeral.

He added that while the deceased was holding the head of the cow, the others were holding the legs and other parts.

At that time, the weather was cloudy and suddenly a thunderstorm struck, killing the cow and the deceased while others sustained degrees of injuries.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue while the others who sustained injuries are now receiving treatment at Worawora Teaching Hospital.

Mr. Ericson indicated that the family was conducting a joint funeral rite of seven people in the Kokomba tradition with the final rite scheduled to take place on May, 9, 2026.

The Assistant Superintendent of police (ASP) Kennedy Frimpong said the police have launched a full investigation into the incident.

He has assured the public that he will provide relevant information to the police service and has pledged to get to the bottom of the case.
