The Mayor of Accra has earned widespread public praise after taking decisive action against his own cousin for breaching sanitation regulations during a recent citywide clean-up exercise.

According to reports, the Mayor had ordered intensified sanitation enforcement across the region to address growing concerns over poor environmental hygiene.

During the operation, his cousin was found to be in violation of the directive.

Despite their family ties, the Mayor insisted on imposing the appropriate fine, stating that leadership must begin with fairness and accountability.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the Mayor’s cousin is seen pleading for leniency, claiming she was unaware of the sanitation exercise.

However, the Mayor stood firm in his decision, stressing that ignorance of the law is not an excuse and that his stance was meant to serve as a message to the general public.

“She is my family, but that is exactly why I must act. If I let her go, what message do I send to others?” the Mayor reportedly stated.

The incident has sparked conversations around the importance of integrity and impartiality in leadership, with many Ghanaians applauding the Mayor for putting duty above personal relationships.
