Chief Arrested for Alledgegly Hired Men to Kill Queen Mother Over Land Dispute

Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, Queenmother of Abamba and Chief Executive (CEO) of Ohema’s Kitchen was alledgegly shot dead on February, 25, 2026 at her residence in Atebubu by unknown gunmen.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, investigations by the service revealed that the Queenmother was allegedly shot over a land dispute.

According to the Police report, the suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder after an investigation revealed their hideout.

A suspect called Nana Yaw Bediako allegedly confessed that he was the shooter and claimed that Nana Owusu Sankofi II, popularly known as Charles Kofi Owusu asked the killers to carry out the murder of the queen mother with an amount of GH¢50,000.

Mr. Raymond Agyemang Darko, the Abakomahene of Akokoa, and several others have also been arrested in connection with the murder, and are currently serving a sentence at Akagul Maximum Security Prison.

Police reports say that the investigators of mobile money transfer and phone records and other reconstruction of the crime scene helped the police to uncover the alleged murder plot.

The report further stated that the alleged that the Akokoa chief had attempted to offer GH¢200,000 during his arrest including an immediate GH¢100,000 parent which the police kept as evidence against the accused.

The other five key suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations, while others have been arraigned before the court for justice to prevail.
