The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a strong caution against attempts to use wealth and external influence to distort traditional chieftaincy processes in Ghana.
He made this statement during his landmark visit to the Ghana Police Service Headquarters in Accra on January 6, 2025.
Addressing senior police officers and dignitaries present, Otumfuo emphasized the importance of preserving the sanctity and integrity of chieftaincy institutions, which are deeply rooted in lineage and customs.

“No one will be allowed to use money to influence chieftaincy and cause confusion,” the revered monarch stated. “If you come from the rightful lineage and the family approves you, the stool will be given to you. Tradition must be respected.”
His comments come amid rising concerns about increasing disputes over traditional leadership, often fueled by political interference and financial influence.
Otumfuo stressed that chieftaincy is not for sale, and any attempts to distort the process not only undermine tradition but also threaten peace and stability in communities.
The visit to the Police Headquarters formed part of the Asantehene’s ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between traditional authorities and state institutions, particularly in areas of security, conflict resolution, and nation-building.
