Ghana’s Rejection of the US Health Deal is a great Move – CDD Fellow
Dr. Kwame Sarpong-Asiedu a member of the public health fellow at the Center for Democratic Governance (CDD) has commended the government on its move to reject the U.S. Health Dealth.
According to him, the move for the U.S. was on the course of reshaping the foreign health sector by providing drugs and other pharmaceutical materials needed in the health sector.
But to him, the deal is one-sided as it is set to expose Ghana’s health data to the United States which affects Ghana as many countries have been affected.

He cited Cuba as one country been affected by the same deal, “Cuba is now finding it difficult to access pharmaceutical materials needed to produce drugs to cure some diseases.
Speaking on Adomtv he added that the deal which was meant for twenty-five years as he argues that the deal contains sensitive information about the country.

He further added that if the deal had gone through, it would have restricted Ghana’s patenting of drugs developed from limited resources, while it would also restrict Ghana particularly the Food and Drugs Authority from re-evaluating drugs imported from the United States.
He argues that the sector could have benefited from $109 million under the proposed deal but he describes it as due diligence from the cabinet for not accepting the deal.
The negotiation of the deal began in November, 2025 but it was rejected due to data sharing.
